Fans get a real chance to make decisions on a creature movie for SyFy

For all you fans disgusted with the films that are released these days, now you have no excuse. According to Mediaweek, Syfy is teaming up with IGN to find the next “Sharktopus”.

Sharktopus is an original Syfy movie featuring a deadly beast that’s half shark and half octopus. The network has created a string of similar creature movies that run on Saturday nights, including Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Mega Piranha, and the upcoming Dinocroc vs Supergator, which is being produced by legendary Cult Cinema Icon Roger Corman.

Now, Syfy is turning to IGN’s online audience to produce the next Saturday night thriller. This Friday, June 25th, the two brands will roll out a new website where fans can vote among several movie concepts, and then help create the movie project, including decisions on wardrobe, dialogue and promotional elements.

Fans will also have access to Syfy and IGN’s production and development meetings, and will review design concepts for the film.

According to the report, some of the concepts up for consideration are Bermuda Triangle, Roswell and 2012. The plan is for SyFy to air the complete fan-driven movie project on Saturday, August 14th.

I just checked IGN, and the name of the project is called B Movie Mogul. According to the IGN report, after the six-week voting period for the storyline ends, the winning movie concept will only be announced during the Saturday, August 14, during the SyFy Saturday Original Movie.

Then fans will be involved for the entire duration of the making of the movie, including choosing the title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue and promotional taglines, as well as how characters might meet their demise. B Movie Mogul will also give you access to what goes on behind-the-scenes on a Syfy Saturday Original Movie, via updates from IGN and Syfy executives and the debut of initial creature designs and artwork.

I’ll post a link to the website as soon as it becomes available.
